This artwork has a story behind it. I started with a canvas painted entirely in black — not just once, but layered with black splatters over the base. I wanted it to feel like something hidden, something deep. Then, using a soft cloth, I smeared in copper and silver tones using a technique I call “smerge.” It’s not a brush stroke. It’s more like a memory being wiped across the surface.

The textures that came out of that process surprised me. They reminded me of oxidized metal, eroded stone, or some ancient weathered surface. Even though the colors are minimal — just black, copper, and silver — the feeling it gives off is full and grounded. I love how raw it turned out, and how different it looks depending on the light or where it’s hung.

This print is made from a high-resolution photo of the original canvas painting, which I photographed myself and edited in Photoshop to match the richness and texture of the real piece. Every step of the process — from painting to photography to editing and creating mockups — is something I do personally, by hand.

This piece can be displayed vertically or horizontally, and I love how different the mood feels depending on the orientation. It adds depth and a kind of raw warmth to a room — whether it’s in a living space, an office, or a cozy reading corner.
